Our Story

    The night we met

Bec and Nate met in Albury-Wodonga in May of 2018. Nate was posted there at the time and Bec had come to town for her Army nursing training.

On the 26th of May, Bec organised a wine tour for her nursing girlfriends. Some of Nate’s friends found out about the tour and asked to come along.

The guys convinced the girls to come to a mexican-themed trivia night after the wine tour. Sitting next to Bec at the trivia table was her future husband, dressed as a cholo, neck tatoos and all: Nate.

After a night out with their friends karaokeing and dancing on tabletops, they knew they’d found something special.

    A man of his word

When Bec went back to Adelaide after her course, they ensured that their long distance relationship would work by visiting each other regularly.

Nate’s first Adelaide visit was from the 5-7th of July, though Bec wasn’t convinced Nate was going to drive 8 hours on a Friday night to see her.

To Bec’s surprise, Nate arrived. She showed him the city and McLaren Vale, visiting wineries and restaurants and topping off the weekend at a friends birthday party.

    Our first holiday

It soon became Bec’s turn to visit Nate. She flew to Sydney and from there they drove along the east coast to Brisbane where Bec met Nate’s friends and family.

They finished the trip off by attending the Sydney Officers Ball together for the first time on the 9th of September.

    Finding love

Bec volunteered to go on as many Army training courses as she could in Albury-Wodonga in 2018, earning a commendation from her unit. What the Army didn’t realise was that her committement was to a handsome Captain and not the Army itself…

By the end of November, Bec and Nate had fallen in love and decided to move to Darwin together for Nate’s next Army posting.

  • 10 January 2019

    The Darwin posting

Bec and Nate drove from Adelaide to Darwin in the first week of 2019. They stopped off at Uluru for Nate’s belated 30th birthday and had dinner under the stars on the 10th of January.

Their Darwin posting wasn’t easy at first: adjusting to a new city, living together, and juggling Nate’s work and Bec’s post-grad study was a challenge – but they worked hard to make their relationship strong.

    The Canberra posting

Their next move was to Canberra in December of 2020. COVID-19 made 2021 revolve around lockdowns and travel restrictions.

Once things had gone back to normal in 2022, Bec and Nate enjoyed deepening their connection with date nights and events such as the Great Gatsby themed Army ball on the 25th of June, 2022.

    The proposal

From December 2023 to October 2024, Nate took long-service leave and he and Bec were lucky enough to travel the world.

On the 21st of March 2024, they visited Yosemite National Park. At the top of Vernal Falls with a stunning view of the cascades and valley peaks, Nate dropped a knee and asked Bec to marry him.

After she said yes, his next words were: ‘sorry it took so long.’ They had been together for 6 years.

Bec is glad he waited for the right moment.

    The wedding

They can’t wait to tie the knot after nearly 8 years together.

    See you there!
